Driving the 2022 Maserati MC20

The design of the 2022 Maserati MC20 complements its raw power.

I only had three short days with the 2022 Maserati MC20, but I tried to take advantage of our time together. The MC20 was only the second Maserati I have ever had the chance to drive, but it certainly exceeded my expectations from day one.

The MC20 obviously made my driveway look good, especially against all of the grey in my little Florida neighborhood. It was slightly intimidating at first, given some of the quirks of the supercar. For instance, it doesn’t have a traditional gear stalk or gear selector. You get to push a button that says “D/M” and poof, you’re in gear. Slipping into reverse is a similar process.

I took the bright-blue Maserati straight to the grocery store for some flowers. As you can see, there was little room for myself, my passenger, and the flowers. We made it work. With only five cubic feet of cargo space, the MC20 isn’t the best choice for groceries or road trips. If it fits on your lap, you’re good to go.

There are a lot of eccentricities in and around the MC20, but it was actually pretty easy to drive. Once out of the driveway and onto the streets, the ultra-lux sports car accelerated with lightning speed. It demands attention due to the color and the engine, which stood out even in the luxurious streets of Naples, Florida. Maserati’s new Nettuno engine is something to marvel at, even if just with your ears.
