Camp Toyota 2026

Taking Toyota’s Off-Roaders To The Limit In West Virginia’s Mountains

Testing Toyota’s off-road lineup in the mountains at Camp Toyota.

Not all automotive events are created equal, and Camp Toyota is probably the most unique of them all. At Twin Mountain Off-Road Adventure in the hills of West Virginia, the possibilities are pretty endless. John, the owner and founder, has set up the property for all sorts of adventures, challenges, and tests you can put your favorite Toyota and Lexus off-road vehicles through, and that’s exactly what we did.

We also had the support of Jackson Philby and Kurt Williams from OLT4X4, who helped keep me calm (an important job), taught me so much about the vehicles and the features we were using, and were generally just a joy to have around. They were my secret weapon for the weekend (especially during the log incident. More on that in the video).

Testing Your Favorite Toyota And Lexus Vehicles On The Trails

Toyota and Lexus brought out the entire off-road lineup for us to play with, including all of the following:

  • 2025 Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter – Everest
  • 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser – Underground
  • 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro – Ice Cap
  • 2026 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro – Wavemaker
  • 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road HV – Heritage Blue
  • 2026 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro – Wavemaker
  • 2026 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner – Underground
  • 2025 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+ – Nori Green
  • 2025 Lexus LX 700h Overtrail – Earth
  • 2025 Lexus LX 700h Overtrail – Nori Green

I’ve reviewed a few of these on their own, but reviewing a TRD Pro truck or SUV in the flatlands of Florida is a very different experience from actually putting it to the test in real mountains. My favorite one so far was the Land Cruiser, but there was so much to discover during our week at Camp Toyota.

Though it might seem like an outlier among large luxury SUVs, the LX surprised me the most. It was highly capable, had some awesome features that you wouldn’t expect on a $116,000 SUV, and did it with style. I took it through some very intense, very slippery uphill sections, but with Jackson’s help, I made it up the hill without issue.

My goals for the week were to have fun, eat some good food, and become a better off-road driver. I would say I accomplished all those goals, thanks to everyone on the Camp Toyota team. This is the sixth year of Camp Toyota, and the family grows every year. I am so thankful to have been included this year and feel like I understand the Toyota and Lexus lineup so much more after a few days in the mountains.
