Revving into the Future: Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann’s Vision for Supercars in the Era of Electrification and Urbanization

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann is set to leave an indelible mark on Florida’s streets and beyond.

Times are changing, but Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann keeps the brand way ahead of the curve. After speaking with him at the opening of the newest Lamborghini dealership in Naples, Florida, I have some insight into the latest release for the brand and where Lamborghini is headed as quickly as its new 1,001-horsepower Revuelto.

Lamborghini’s impact on Florida’s luxury automotive scene has been a roaring success

Florida really has an ideal climate for supercar daily drivers. Since the weather is pretty good for most of the year, drivers can take out their Lamborghini any day. Thanks to that, you’ll see many of these cars on the road at any time. As someone born in Naples, finally getting a Lamborghini dealership is an exciting step forward for this once sleepy little town.

Mr. Winkelmann told me that Florida is actually one of the biggest markets for the brand within the United States, second only to California. “It’s a very big market, actually, covering about 20% of the US,” Winkelmann told me.

The United States represents the most important market, followed by Germany, the UK, and China. Within the country, California, Florida, Texas, and the Northeast represent the biggest areas for the brand. There are six dealerships in Florida, with stores in Sarasota, Miami, and now Naples. Further north, Orlando has a dealership to serve the rest of the state.

Florida has been one of the fastest-growing states in the last few years, with Naples specifically seeing explosive growth. For reasons we won’t get into here, there are more potential clients for Lamborghini in the area than ever before. It also makes sense that the luxury brand would want a piece of the pie, seeing as its main competitors have recently opened up shops in the area or have already been here.

How will Lamborghini maintain its thrilling driving experience in a world shifting toward self-driving transportation?

Winkelmann says there are three main constraints to consider: electrification, digitalization, and urbanization. These three factors are going to have increasingly significant impacts on future vehicles. Even though every brand is focused on the EV cause, it does raise some questions about the future of driving for fun.

Automotive brands are dealing with the electrification of current and new models for sustainability. Though electric, these vehicles have more power and performance than many ICE vehicles could have ever dreamed of previously. Digitalization and urbanization go hand-in-hand in a way, with more people living in cities and depending on autonomous driving than ever before.

Lamborghini believes that there will always be room in everyday life for supercars like the Huracán, Revuelto, and Urus. You might rely on a Tesla Model 3 to get you to work and navigate boring traffic, but that’s never been what Lamborghini wanted out of its vehicles. “Every Lamborghini will have a steering wheel, and every Lamborghini will be driveable by the owner.” That’s good news for all involved parties and brings us to the new hybrid Revuelto.

The Revuelto’s bold leap into automotive innovation

Upon reading the press release for the Revuelto, Lamborghini noted that it was an all-new design that stayed true to the brand’s signature looks. Without much delay, Lamborghini’s CEO complimented the back end of the new Revuelto. “When you think about the design DNA, it is coming from the Countach.” He went on to say that the Countach was one of the first vehicles in the brand to have the cabin-forward or wedge shape as we know.

A straight line runs the length of the car, called the central line. Then there is the square shape of the back that is recognizable on pretty much all of the Lamborghini vehicles. “You can immediately recognize the Lamborghini, even if you don’t know what kind of model it is.” With the central line and the square shape representing a major part of the brand’s style, it makes sense these elements are represented in the Revuelto.

The Revuelto’s Human Machine Interface (HMI) is remarkably innovative. The long and short of it is that the new HMI will be an ever-evolving technology. This system can help improve driving both mechanically and in a more emotional way if you will. It helps connect the driver with the Lamborghini by showing important information about the car, but it can also help change settings to customize the ride.

It could be too late if you haven’t gotten ahold of the Lamborghini Revuelto yet. Not only did the Revuelto sell out already, but it is sold out halfway through 2026. “We are very happy,” Winkelmann said. “This is proof that with hybridization of these types of cars, they are already accepted and digested by our customers.”

If you are in Southwest Florida anytime soon, stop by the new showroom at 5154 Tamiami Trail East. For those reading from far away, keep an eye out for the Revuelto on your local streets, and don’t blink. You might miss this High-Performance Electrified Vehicle flying by if you do.
